What USDA zone is Polk County in?
Zone 9A
USDA zones were set up to help people know whether a plant will grow in a particular region of the county. Zones range from zone 1 (Anchorage, Alaska) to 11 (costal Hawaii). Most of Polk County is in USDA zone 9A. There is however, a small sliver of the county in the far north east which is zone 9B. When you purchase a plant at the store, make sure that the zone is given on the label. Plant zones are usually given as a range (example 7-9A). Buy plant that fall into this range.
